Social Movements of the '50s, '60s and '70sDuring the years from 1955 to the 1980s, Harvey Richards used still cameras to photograph the world around him. He shot photographs as he documented social movements during the making of his 22 films from 1958 to 1978. Nature and peopleHe also photographed the beauty and wonder of the natural world and the people he encountered on his journeys around the United States and around the world. His international travels included journeys around Latin America, Europe, the Soviet Union and Africa. The Harvey Richards Media Archives has all of this photography, some of which is presented in the web galleries on this page as well as in Critical Focus: The Black and White Photographs of Harvey Wilson Richards. Many areas of his work are not on the web site yet but will appear in the near future. Check back here to see new galleries as www.estuarypress.com grows.
